LOUDONVILLE, NY – After leading through the first 21 minutes of play, the Sacred Heart (4-6) women’s basketball team surrendered their control in the third quarter but quickly regained their advantage and held on to it for the early moments of the fourth. In the final window, Siena (5-5) embraced an 8-3 run to put them back in front and went up by as many as seven before settling on a 62-57 final for its win at the Alumni Recreation Center Sunday afternoon.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Despite trailing by as many as eight on the brinks of the fourth quarter’s clutch period, the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team (2-4) rallied back to force overtime, Thursday evening at the Pitt Center. At the conclusion of the first period, both the visiting Hofstra Pride (4-3) and the Pioneers played to a draw before another five minutes of action resumed. In the final session, a flawed Pioneers’ defense in waning time would help the Pride turn the tide as the foe converted an old-fashioned three resulting in a lead the hosts would fail to combat.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart women’s basketball team gutted out a 65-61 win over the visiting Manhattan Jaspers, Wednesday evening inside of the William H. Pitt Center. Both teams traded six-point leads as the Pioneers credited their advantage in the third and the Jaspers saw their cushion come to fruition in the fourth. However, the Pioneers remained relentless registering a 7-2 run to deadlock play at 61-61 apiece. With just 70 ticks pictured on the clock, Sacred Heart eliminated any more scoring of the visitors while tacking on four more of its own to settle the final.

Women's Tennis Competes At Army Invitational
West Point, NY. - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team competed at the Army Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The event was broken down into A, B, C, D singles tournaments and A and B doubles tournaments. The A singles tournament was comprised of the #1 and #2 singles players of each team. The singles players were entered into a 32-player, double elimination tournament with a best of two sets format (no AD scoring) with a super tiebreaker in lieu of a third set. The A and B doubles tournaments were comprised of the #1 and #2, and #3 and #4 doubles pairs from each school, respectively. The format for doubles was a no-AD 6-game pro set with a tiebreaker at 6 games all.

Jamie Carlson Named To The NFCA All-Regional Third Team
Jamie Carlson was named to the NFCA All-Regional Third Team. Carlson, who led the Pioneers to a post season run for the first time since 2011, finished the year with a 12-13 record on the mound. She led the NEC in strikeouts this season with 160. She finishes her final season with the Pioneers with 592 career strikeouts, 3rd in Sacred Heart career record book. Jamie posted her first career no-hitter this season, against Hartford on May 2nd. The Corona, California native was voted as the NEC Pitcher of the Week on three separate occasions, and was named All-NEC Second Team.

Joshua Ayzenberg Selected As 2017 AVCA All-America Honorable Mention
Joshua Ayzenberg (Long Beach, N.Y.) was selected as a 2017 AVCA Men’s Division I-II All–America Honorable Mention. The junior libero lead the EIVA in digs per set, averaging 2.92, which landed him second in the NCAA. Ayzenberg recorded 13 double-digit games in digs, as he finished the year with 251 total digs, besting the previous year by 32. Among one of the Pioneers most successful seasons in program history, Ayzenberg led SHU past #13 Penn State on Feb. 18th, as he recorded 22 digs. He also received EIVA All-Academic honors for the second consecutive season.

The Sacred Heart women’s lacrosse team rallied from a four-goal deficit in the second half Sunday at Mount St. Mary’s to tie the game at 10-10 with over 7:00 to go, but couldn’t take the lead as the Mountaineers went on to win 12-10.

The Sacred Heart women’s golf team holds a 17-stroke edge on the field after finishing day two of the Northeast Conference Women’s Golf Championship with a team score of 304. Senior Ellen Nighbor posted her second straight round of one-under par to lead the individual field.

Hot Pioneer Bats, Lead To A Sweep Of LIU Brooklyn
The Sacred Heart softball team held their annual Breast Cancer game, and went on to sweep the Blackbirds of LIU Brooklyn. The Pioneer bats were hot in both games, as SHU won game one 6-2, and game two 4-1. Game one saw three SHU homeruns, as the Pioneers look to keep rolling into senior night tomorrow at 12:00pm, as they take on Mount St. Mary’s in a double header.

The Sacred Heart baseball team dropped the Northeast Conference series opener to Wagner College, 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Ballpark at SCSU. After a delayed start due to rain, the Seahawks (11-18, 3-5 NEC) offense outhit the Pioneers (12-24, 5-5 NEC) 17-3 in the game.

The Sacred Heart Softball team travelled to Fairfield University, to take on the Red Stags. The Pioneers bats were hot, as they picked up 14 hits. Fallon Bevino led the way going three for five at the plate, adding a homerun. The Pioneers are back at home as they host LIU Brooklyn in a double header on Saturday.
