FAIRFIELD, Conn.— Sacred Heart Baseball head coach Nick Restaino announced the addition of Matt Burns to the coaching staff as volunteer assistant coach for the 2018 season on Wednesday.

Burns joins the Pioneers staff after spending the summer managing the Rome Generals of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League. Prior to his time with the Generals, he served as an assistant coach at Post University.

In 2016, he spent time as graduate assistant with Franklin Pierce. He worked with the infielders, outfielders and hitters. That summer he served as hitting coach for the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs of the FCBL, leading the team to a second ranked team offense in the league.

Burns was a two-time All-Northeast 10 honoree at Southern Connecticut State. In 2015, he led the team with a .356 batting average, 11 doubles, and 28 stolen bases.
