Anosike's Late-Game Free Throws Pushes Men's Basketball Past Army, 79-78

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Sacred Heart University men's basketball team earned its second win in a row as the Pioneers defeated Army West Point, 79-78, in the opening game of the Brown Bears Classic Friday evening.

Sean Hoehn and Aaron Clarke scored 24 points apiece in the win, but it was E.J. Anosike's four made free-throws in the final 18 seconds of regulation that secured the win for the Pioneers.

  • Trailing 17-10, Hoehn nailed a three-pointer with 12:35 remaining in the half to spark a 21-6 run for the Pioneers to give them a 31-23 lead with 4:02 remaining in the half

  • Hoehn went 4-for-4 on the run, including 3-for-3 from three for 11 points

  • The Black Knights closed the half with a 9-4 run, allowing the Pioneers to go into the half with a 35-32 run

  • Out of the half, the Pioneers went on a swift 6-2 run to push its lead to 41-34

  • With SHU holding a narrow 44-43 lead with 15:24 remaining in the half, Radz scored six of the next eight points for the Pioneers to give them a 52-49 lead

  • Trailing 58-57 with 8:24 remaining, the Pioneers went on a 7-0 run, sparked by a Kinnon LaRose jumper and capped by a Hoehn three-pointer to put SHU up 64-58 with 7:08 left in regulation

  • The Black Knights stormed back to tie the contest at 69-69

  • Back-to-back three-pointers from Hoehn and Clarke put the Pioneers up 75-69 with 2:03 remaining

  • After the Black Knights cut the Pioneers' lead to 75-73, Anosike knocked down two free-throws to put the Pioneers up four

  • After the Black Knights knocked down a three to cut SHU's lead to 77-76, Anosike went to the line again and nailed both to essentially secure the win for SHU.
