Men’s Tennis Drops Heartbreaker in NEC Quarterfinals
SHU won the doubles point with a pair of 6-4 decisions and was ahead 3-1 after taking two of three matches to end in two sets. Needing to win just one of the three that went three sets, the Pioneers could not pull through and ultimately fell 4-3, ending their season at 9-14, the most wins for the program since its 2011 NEC Championships season.

SHU Swept by Two-Time Defending NEC Champion Bryant
The Sacred Heart men’s tennis team fell to 2-2 in the Northeast Conference as the Pioneers were swept by two-time defending champion Bryant on Saturday morning. The loss is the second in a row for SHU, who now stand at 8-13 overall.

Sacred Heart Takes Doubles Point in Loss to NJIT
Brian Power and Matt Dean continued their winning ways, moving above .500 to 12-11 with a third consecutive victory, 6-2 at first doubles. Matthew Surprenant and Anthony Santino then secured the afternoon’s opening point with a 7-5 triumph at the third position, their second straight win together.

Two Men’s Tennis Matches Postponed
The Sacred Heart men’s tennis team had it next two matches postponed due to inclement weather on Monday. Sacred Heart’s next match and new spring home opener will now be on Saturday, April 2 at 12:30 pm against Stony Brook.

Final Match Gives Hofstra 4-3 Win Over Sacred Heart
Karan Narula and his fourth singles opponent, Gustav Akesson, went back and forth, with Narula forcing a third set by winning the second 7-5 after getting edged 6-4 in the first. Akesson would ultimately come out on top though, again by a score of 6-4, snapping Narula’s three-match winning streak and clinching the 4-3 Hofstra victory.

The Sacred Heart men’s tennis opening match of its Spring Break trip in Puerto Rico, scheduled for Tuesday against Haverford, has been postponed due to inclement weather. The two teams will not play on Wednesday at 11 am local time and 10 am eastern.

The Northeast Conference unveiled the Preseason Coaches’ Poll for both men’s and women’s tennis on Wednesday. The Sacred Heart men were tabbed sixth, while the women were selected fifth. Bryant was voted the unanimous favorite in both polls.

Power will be SHU’s lone representative in singles competition, as he is set to take on Niko Vulinovich of Hofstra in the round of 128 at about 1 pm, while Chapman and Savio will compete together in doubles play beginning with a round of 64 matchup with a duo from St. John’s at 8 am.
