SHU Swept by Two-Time Defending NEC Champion Bryant

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Sacred Heart men's tennis team fell to 2-2 in the Northeast Conference as the Pioneers were swept by two-time defending champion Bryant on Saturday morning. The loss is the second in a row for SHU, who now stand at 8-13 overall.

Bryant (8-11, 2-0 NEC) began play by sweeping doubles, winning all three matches by at least three games. The teams of Brian Power and Matt Dean and Derek Chapman and Karan Narula turned in the best performance for Sacred Heart, as both fell by scores of 6-3 at first and third doubles. The setbacks snapped winning streaks of three and four, respectively, for the pairs.

Power would also win the most games in single play for SHU, forcing a second set tiebreaker at the first position after dropping the opener 3-6. Cory Seltman would also take nine games in his sixth singles match, battling in a back and forth 4-6, 5-7 defeat.

Sacred Heart has one final regular season match next Thursday at Rider before beginning play in the 2016 NEC Championships hosted at the Mercer Country Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J. on Friday.
