MILFORD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University women's golf team improved 17 strokes from its first-round score to place second at the Sacred Heart Invitational on Tuesday. The Pioneers playing on their home course at Great River Golf Club carded a 316 and finished with five top-20 finishers in the two-day event.
Junior Chelsea Sedlar led the Pioneers scoring group with a fifth-place finish in the two-round event. She carded an 80 in round one, battling the high winds on the course. Sedlar bounced back with a 77 in the round to finish with a score of 13-over par. Senior Alejandra Perez improved in round two to place 11th with a score of 165.
Senior Lauren Pelster moved up eight spots on the leaderboard to finish 12th at 22-over par. Senior Abigail Hood fired a 78 in the final round to move up 14 spots to tie for 17th overall. Sophomore Ana Contreras rounded out the scoring group with a two-round score of 172 to tie for 23rd.
Senior Estee Deschamps finished tied for eighth overall with a two-round score of 163 as an individual. Freshman Maya Isom and junior Chrissie Wojciechowski both competed as individuals finishing 27th and tied for 32nd respectively.
St. John's claimed the team title with a two-round score of 629. The Pioneers held off Nutmeg state foe, Hartford for second place finishing two strokes ahead of the Hawks.
The Pioneers conclude the regular season at the Hartford Women's Spring Invite at Tumble Brook Country Club on Saturday, April 14. The Northeast Conference Championship kicks off on Friday, April 20 at LPGA International.
