Women's Hockey Downed by Franklin Pierce 2-0 to Conclude Series

SHELTON, Conn.- The Sacred Heart University Women's Ice Hockey team fell to Franklin Peirce by a final score 2-0 this afternoon. The team returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 24 when the team hosts New England College. Puck-drop is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

The game would be a heavily defensive one as neither team would be able to pull of a first period goal to keep the game scoreless heading into the second period. The Pioneers would be able to fire off nine shots while Franklin Pierce attempted 11. Freshman goalie Frankie Sanchez had an impressive defensive showing in the first as she tallied all 11 saves in the first.

In the second the Falcons would be able to score the opening goal of the game at 11:57 as Haley Parker would slip a shot passed the netminder Sanchez while the Falcons were on the powerplay to give Franklin Pierce a 1-0 lead. The Pioneers would strengthen their attempts on shots but impressive goaltending by Franklin Pierce's goalie Emme Ostrander would hold the Pioneers to no goals in the second while faced with 12 shots by the SHU offense.

The Falcons would tally one more goal in the third to eventually walk away with the win and the split series ending the game with the final score of 2-0.
