Women's Ice Hockey Shuts-Out New England College 4-0

SHELTON, Conn.- The Sacred Heart University Women's Ice Hockey team defeated New England College by a final score of 4-0 tonight. The team looks to complete the two game sweep tomorrow afternoon. Puck-drop is set for 2:30 p.m.

After a scoreless first period courtesy of strong goaltending and defense by both sides, the Pioneers would be able to jump on the board in the second period starting with a goal by junior defenseman Jayne Lewis as she would score off an assist by fellow junior defenseman Olivia Bryant to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead at 11:51. Then just six minutes later, the Pioneers would score the second goal of the game this time courtesy of freshman Samantha Shoebottom off assists by sophomore Lexi Edwards and senior Lilly Cleary to give SHU a 2-0 lead at 17:26.

The Pioneers would kick off the third and final period with an early goal as Cleary switched from giving assists to scoring goals as she nailed her first goal of the season at 1:50 to give SHU a 3-0 lead. SHU would conclude the game with a goal coming at 16:26 this time off the stick of senior Katie Stueve off assists by Anna Klein and Jayne Lewis to make the final score of the game 4-0. Senior netminder Sarah Erban tallied 17 saves in the Pioneers eighth victory of the year as well.
