Women's Hockey Rallies For 3-2 Win Over Becker

The Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team earned a 3-2 come-from-behind win over visiting Becker College, Saturday afternoon at the Rinks at Shelton. The win improves the Pioneers to 11-4-1 on the year, while the Hawks fall to 0-9-2 overall. 

Maddie Bishop netted a pass from Haley Payne 4:42 into the third period to complete the Pioneers comeback. Three Pioneers scored goals in the win; Payne, Anna Klein and Lilly Cleary, and had four assists. 

The Pioneers take to the road for their final games of the fall semester. SHU will play at SUNY Canton, Friday and Saturday, December 7 and 8, the start of a six-game road swing that concludes on January 18, 2019, when the Pioneers host Quinnipiac.

First Period

  • The Pioneers struck first, 5:44 into the game, with a tally from Lilly Cleary
  • Becker drew even, scoring during a 5-on-3 power play, 90 seconds later, when Clare Conway found the back of the net
  • Another power play goal for Becker, this one from Gabby Petrisin, put the Hawks in front with 2:52 to play in the first period

Second Period

  • SHU wasted little time equalizing the game, as Anna Klein put the puck into the crossbar from the stick side, 32 seconds into the period
  • The Pioneers outshot the Hawks 17-3 in the second, but Becker goaltender Julia Johnson stopped the final 15 shots she faced in the period

Third Period

  • Bishop put the Pioneers in front with an even strength goal, 4:42 into the period
  • SHU outshot Becker 9-4 in the final period
  • Becker played with an extra skater for the final 60 seconds, managing four shots, with three stopped by Sarah Erban 

By the Numbers
