Spellman Sets Block Record; Records Double-Double At UConn

The Sacred Heart University men's basketball team fell 89-67 to host UConn Friday night in Storrs, Conn. The loss drops the Pioneers to 0-2 on the season, while the Huskies improve to 1-0.

Jare'l Spellman became the program's Division I all-time blocks leader and recorded a double-double, that included a career-high 15 rebounds. He was one of four Pioneers in double figures on the night, with first-year Tyler Thomas scoring 10 points, for his first career double-digit scoring effort.

UConn had five players reach double-figures, with Josh Carlton leading the way with 18 points.

The Pioneers travel to Binghamton on Saturday, November 16, for the last of three road games to open the season.
