Sacred Heart University junior E.J. Anosike was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week, for the third time this season on Monday. First-year Tyler Thomas was also recognized, earning NEC Rookie of the Week accolades. The Pioneers posted an 89-68 win over Holy Cross on Sunday.
Anosike shot 81.8 percent from the field as he led the Pioneers with 19 points. He recorded his fifth double -double of the season as he collected 14 rebounds as well. Anosike had six offensive boards in the game. The junior also recorded three steals and had an assist, as the Pioneers earned their seventh win of the season.
Thomas equaled a career-high as he notched 17 points in 21 minutes off of the bench at Holy Cross. The newcomer knocked down a career-high five three-pointers, hitting 71.4 percent from behind the arc. Thomas also had three rebounds, an assist and a steal in the victory.
The Pioneers head into the Christmas Break with a 7-5 overall record and having secured a winning non-conference campaign. SHU returns to action on December 29 when it hosts Lafayette at the Pitt Center at 2:00 pm.
