Parker's Free Throws Give SHU 77-75 Win at FDU

Cameron Parker made two free throws with 0.8 seconds to play to break the seventh tie of the game and give the Sacred Heart University men's basketball team a 77-75 victory over Northeast Conference host Fairleigh Dickinson, Thursday night. The Pioneers improve to 9-7 on the year and 2-1 in league play, while the Knights fall to 3-11 overall and 1-2 in league play

Four Pioneers, led by 23 points from Koreem Ozier, scored in double figures in the game. E.J. Anosike, 19 points and 12 rebounds, and Jare'l Spellman, 14 points and 10 rebounds, both had double-doubles, while Parker's free throws gave him 10 points on the night.

The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, January 15, when they host Central Connecticut State at 6:00 p.m.

Turning Point

  • Trailing 64-59, the Pioneers scored 13 unanswered points in a 3:03 stretch, to build a 72-64 lead, as five different players made baskets during the run
  • After FDU rallied to tie the score, 75-75, Parker drained his free throws to give the Pioneers the victory

  • Ozier led the Pioneers with 23 points, shooting 4-8 from behind the arc
  • Anosike hit 7-8 at the line and collected a dozen rebounds, for his seventh double-double of the season

  • FDU closed to 9-6 with a basket at 15:01, before SHU unleashed a 16-8 run over the next 5:33 to open a 25-12 advantage
  • Parker took a loose ball the length of the floor, with 11:07 to play before the break to make the score 22-10
  • Alex Watson hit from behind the arc to cap the run, at the 9:36 mark, for a 25-12 SHU lead
  • The Knights closed within single-digits on a Bishop three at the 7:18 mark of the half, 27-18

  • Spellman opened the second-half with a make from the win, and Ozier went coast-to-coast after a steal to make the score, 41-39
  • Anosike knocked down a pair of free throws at 18:35 knotting the score, 41-41
  • Jenkins hit a three on the next possession, to go back in front, 44-41, and FDU pushed its lead to five, 51-46, on a Jenkins basket in the paint at 15:03
  • Back-to-back triples from Ozier brought the Pioneers level, 53-53 with 11:43 to play in the half
  • Anosike put the Pioneers back in front with two free throws at the 11:06 mark, 55-53, and capped the Pioneers 9-2 run
  • FDU scored the next four points, before Parker and Spellman answered, retying the score, 59-59, with 6:45 remaining
  • Malone-Key scored in the paint at 6:45 and then from behind the arc 28 seconds later to give FDU its final five-point lead, 64-59
