  • Men’s Fencing Foil Wins Gold at NEIFC Championships

    The Sacred Heart men’s fencing team took down a gold medal as winners of the Vitale Cup at the NEIFC Championships held at Vassar College on Saturday. Lawrence Tan, Tomas Koeck and Lucas Wetmore helped SHU earn gold in the team’s foil competition while Tan also took down silver in the foil individual tournament and Koeck earned bronze.

  • Men’s Fencing Picks Up Four Victories in NFC Meet #3

    The Sacred Heart men’s fencing team had their most-successful run of the 2019-20 season on Sunday as the Pioneers went 4-1 at the NFC Meet #3 hosted by Tufts. The Pioneers’ combination of Tomas Koeck (14-1 in foil), Lawrence Tan (13-2 in foil), Lucas Wetmore (10-2 in foil) and Troy Kapitzke (13-2 in epee) combined to go 50-7 on the day in the five combined rounds of action.
  • Men’s Fencing Falls to Yale, 20-7

    The Sacred Heart men’s fencing team made a trip to Yale on Saturday and fell to the Ivy League power, 20-7, at the Payne Whitney Gymnasium.
  • Men’s Fencing Takes Part in Penn Dual Meet
    January 21, 2020
    Back in action after over a month off due to winter break, the Sacred Heart men’s fencing team took part in the Penn Dual Meet on Saturday. The Pioneers finished the day with one victory and four defeats but the Pioneers’ foil unit managed a winning record on the team, finishing 3-2 in the five rounds of bouts at Penn.
  • Tomas Koeck, Holmes Brothers Earn Silver at the January North American Cup

    Playing on an all-Sacred Heart squad, current men’s fencing sophomore Tomas Koeck teamed up with SHU alumni Stuart and Andrew Holmes and earned a silver medal in the 2020 January North American Cup.
  • Men’s Fencing Competes in Home Dual Meet

    The Sacred Heart men’s fencing team competed in its only home meet of the 2019-20 season, the SHU Dual Meet, on Sunday in the Pitt Center. The Pioneers went 0-5 on the day in bouts against Princeton (22-5 score), Vassar (18-9), Penn State (21-6), NYU (22-5) and Brown (16-11).
  • Foil Group Dominates for Men’s Fencing at NFC Meet #1

    It was a banner day for the foil group as the Sacred Heart men’s fencing team competed in the Northeast fencing Conference Meet #1 on Sunday afternoon hosted by Brown University. The Pioneers lost four-of-five bouts on the day but recorded a 3-2 record with the foil weapon through the course of the five-round competition.
  • Men’s Fencing Completes Winning Weekend at Vassar Dual Meet

    The Sacred Heart men’s fencing team completed a successful weekend at the Vassar Dual Meet, finishing with a 5-3 record in the eight-round meet. The Pioneers scored five straight wins to start the day with victories coming over Haverford, Yeshiva, West Point, Lafayette and Hunter before falling to Stevens, Drew Green and Incarnate Word to end the day.
  • Lawrence Tan Earns Gold for Men’s Fencing at NEIFC Fall Invitational

    The Sacred Heart men’s fencing team opened up the 2019-20 season on Saturday at the NEIFC Fall Invitational held at Smith College. The Pioneers turned in several outstanding performances with Lawrence Tan’s gold medal in the foil being the standout moment of the day. Bennett Cohen and Troy Kapitzke picked up bronze medals in the epee event while Lucas Wetmore placed sixth in the foil.
