Men's Ice Hockey Set to Face In-State Rival Yale Saturday on ESPN+

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University Men's Ice Hockey team heads just a little north to face in-state rival Yale on Saturday. Puck-drop is set for 7:00 p.m. and airs live on ESPN+. Proceeds from the game will benefit the Connecticut Hockey Foundation

Setting the Scene... The Pioneers will take a short road trip on Saturday to take on in-state rival Yale. The 7 p.m. game benefitting the Connecticut Hockey Foundation airs live on ESPN+.

Last Time Out... The Sacred Heart University Men's Ice Hockey team fell to AIC by a final score of 6-5 on Tuesday night at Webster Bank Arena.

Last Meeting... Sophomore Zach Tsekos registered the lone goal for SHU in the second. His shorthanded tally gives the Pioneers shorthanded goals in back-to-back weekends. Junior Brett Magnus recorded 36 saves in goal for SHU. A late goal by Yale's Joe Snively broke the tie as the Sacred Heart men's ice hockey team fell to the Bulldogs 2-1 on Saturday night at Webster Bank Arena. The Pioneers (4-11-2) scored first in the second period before the Bulldogs rattled off two unanswered scores (5-7) both scored by Snively.

Scouting The Bulldogs... Yale finished with a record of 15-15-1 last year, ultimately being defeated by Quinnipiac, in the ECAC conference tournament. The Bulldogs return four of their top five scorers from 2017-18 in Joe Snively, Evan Smith, Ted Hart, and Dante Palecco. Sam Tucker, who appeared in 20 games last year while going 8-11-1, posted a 3.08 goal against average and a .893 save percentage. Two members of the Yale Hockey Class of 2022 were selected in the fourth round of the 2018 NHL Draft. Center Curtis Hall was drafted by the Boston Bruins while defenseman Jack St. Ivany was seleced by the Philadelphia Flyers.

Stealing the Show... Freshman Ryan Steele currently is tied for second on team in goals this season and leads all freshman with four goals. He tallied a goal and two assists in the teams last matchup against AIC. In Atlantic Hockey, Steele is currently tied for 46th in goals.

Godbout Heats Up... Sophomore Marcel Godbout scored a goal against AIC to improve his total goals for the year to be four. He is currently tied for second on team in total goals this season.

Freshman Finding There Way: This years freshman class is showing impressive growth as they have scored a total of ten goals and 13 assists for a total of 23 points. Freshman Todd Goehring netted his first career goal in the Canisius series while Austin Magera and Ryan Steele each compiled assists. Steele recorded one while Magera tallied two. Austin Magera leads the freshman class in points with 10 (3 goals and 7 assists).
