Men’s Cross Country Places 35th at 2019 NCAA Northeast Regionals

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Racing against the best competition the Northeast has to offer, the Sacred Heart men's cross country team posted a 35th place finish out of 37 teams on a modified road course on Friday morning. Harvard claimed the victory with 59 team points on the day.

The 6k race was moved by the NCAA Track & Field and Cross Country Committee from the Audubon Golf Course in Buffalo to a road course due to concerns with poor footing, ice and student-athlete safety. The late change in plans was a welcome change for the Pioneers as all seven in competition on Friday posted personal-best 10k times in the action.

  • Leading the Pioneers with the fastest time on the team for the sixth time in seven appearances in 2019 was junior Moetiz Shilleh who placed 214th overall with a time of 32:56.6
  • Running in his second career NCAA Regional, Shilleh moved up 16 spots from his 230th place finish in the 2018 event while he improved a considerable amount from his time of 39:13.8 last season
  • Packing up well with Shilleh was classmate Ryan Corbett who was second-fastest on the team with his 223rd place result as he clocked in at 33:15.2
  • Senior Nicholas Pandolfo finished his final NCAA Regional appearance in 227th place as he managed a time of 33:22.2 in the 10k event
  • Rounding out the scoring on the day for SHU was senior Justin Klotz (247th place, 34:23.3) and junior Christopher Gillis (257th, 35:24.9)
  • Also competing for the Pioneers was junior Sean Murray (260th, 35:53.3)

The Pioneers conclude the 2019 season on Saturday, November 23rd with an appearance in the IC4A Championships which will be held at the Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
