Women’s Fencing Competes at Vassar Dual Meet


POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart women's fencing team wrapped up competition at the Vassar Dual Meet on Sunday afternoon. In the team's second meet of the season, the Pioneers concluded the day with a 4-4 record in eight matches throughout the day.

In their first meet of the day, the Pioneers dropped a 17-9 decision to Stevens, with the closest margin coming in the epee where SHU fell 5-4.

Facing fellow NEC member Wagner in round three, SHU fell by a 17-10 margin to the Seahawks. The Pioneers did manage to claim a 5-4 win in the epee round against Wagner.

A dominating effort in the sabre event (9-0 victory for SHU)) loomed large as the Pioneers posted their first win of the day, 17-7 over LIU.

Another standout performance in the sabre (7-2 in favor of SHU) paved the way to a 17-10 victory for the Pioneers over Fairleigh Dickinson as SHU also won the epee with a 5-4 victory over the Knights.

The most-decisive win of the day for SHU came against Yehsiva as the Pioneers claimed victories in all three disciplines, taking the sabre and foil by 6-2 margins and the epee by an 8-1 result, ultimately taking the victory 22-5.

The Pioneers dropped a 20-7 decision to Wellesley and closed out the day with a 16-11 loss to Incarnate Word.
