Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse goalkeeper, Bella Beaton was named Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday. The honor is her first of the season, and she was joined as an NEC Primer Performer by her classmate, Mikela Eacrett, and senior defender Elizabeth Small.
Beaton, a native of Merrimack, N.H., backstopped a strong Pioneers defensive effort in a tightly fought contest with Vermont on Friday. The rookie made nine saves, stopping 50 percent of the shots she faced on the afternoon. In addition, Beaton recorded three ground balls for the Pioneers.
Small, from Rumson, N.J., has a career-day on Friday, with 10 caused turnovers and six ground balls.
Eacrett, from Londonderry, N.H., was also a part of that Pioneers defensive effort. She recorded three ground balls and three caused turnovers in the game.
Beaten and Eacrett lead the Pioneers back onto the field on Friday, when SHU hosts Delaware State. That game will begin at 2:00 pm.
