SOMERSET, N.J.— The Sacred Heart University Women's Soccer team was picked to finish sixth in the Northeast Conference Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
The Pioneers finished the 2018 season with a 5-13 overall record while placing seventh in the NEC standings with a conference record of 3-5. The team returns 20 to the roster for the 2019 season while welcoming a 21-member freshman class to Park Avenue.
Sacred Heart was picked ahead of Robert Morris, LIU, Wagner, St. Francis Brooklyn and Merrimack. The defending NEC Champions, Central Connecticut State, earned the top spot in the poll with nine first place votes. Saint Francis U and Fairleigh Dickinson followed in second and third with both teams picking up a first place vote. Bryant and Mount Saint Mary's were picked fourth and fifth to round out the 11 team poll.
SHU opens the 2019 season on the road as the Pioneers will face Vermont on Friday, August 23. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
