SOMERSET, N.J.- The Sacred Heart University Swimming and Diving Team was selected to finish sixth in the 2018 Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. The team returns to action on Saturday Oct. 12 when the Pioneers compete at Central Connecticut State. The meet is set for a 1:00 p.m. start.
Bryant was chosen by the league's head coaches as the unanimous favorite to repeat as Northeast Conference (NEC) champion in 2019-20. Five-time champion Central Connecticut was tabbed to finish second while Wagner was selected to place third. Saint Francis U was picked fourth and LIU Brooklyn fifth, followed in order by Sacred Heart, St. Francis Brooklyn and Mount St. Mary's and Merrimack.
Meanwhile, The Pioneers broke a series of school records last season including junior Lauren Somers who broke a school record in the 100-yard freestyle (51.15). The record was broken by Somers in the preliminary session and reset again this evening. The 400-freestyle relay broke the university record with a final time of 3:30.86, making them the sixth fastest in the NEC.
At the conference meet the Pioneers broke seven school records, making it eleven total new records in the 2018-19 season.
