EAST MEADOW, N.Y.- The Sacred Heart University Swimming and Diving team completed the team's first day of events at the ECAC Winter Championships this afternoon. The Pioneers will continue events tomorrow morning beginning at 9:00 a.m.
The Pioneers as a team currently sit in seventh place as SHU has totaled 126 points after the first day of events. Fairfield University currently leads with 358 points.
In the one meter diving, sophomore Molly Martin dominated the board racking up a score of 215.2 to take first place. Meanwhile fellow sophomore Megan McLaughlin took third with a score of 204.10. Martin is the first Pioneer to become champion at ECAC's since senior Lauren Somers took gold in the 200 freestyle relay during the 2017-18 season.
In the 200 medley relay, the Pioneers took 16th place with a time of 1:56.15. The relay consisted of sophomore Aleksandra Dauz, senior Lauren Somers, first-year Jillian Pusateri, and junior Margaret Flaherty. Pusateri broke a season best time in the relay as she swam the 150 butterfly with a time of 28.31 while Flaherty broke a season best with a time of 26.33 in the 200 free leg of the relay.
In the 1650 yard free, Flaherty took 16th place with a time of 18:06.55 while Jillian Pusateri placed 21st with a time of 18:24.45.
