Middle Distance Runners Dominate for Women’s Track & Field at the UAlbany Winter Classic

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The middle distance group turned in a stellar performance on Friday as the Sacred Heart women's track and field team took part in the UAlbany Winter Classic hosted at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island. Jacqueline Thorne won the 1000m while Bianca De Lucia placed eighth in the same event and Olivia Weiss earned a fourth place finish in the one mile to highlight the efforts for SHU on the day.

  • Thorne was tremendous in the 1000m, legging out a photo finish victory over Caroline O'Shea of Vermont as Thorne clocked in at 2:56.56 while O'Shea was right behind with a time of 2:57.07
  • De Lucia was also stellar in the 1000m, placing eighth overall in a field of 43 competitors with a personal-best time of 2:58.95
  • Weiss capped a phenomenal effort for the Pioneer upperclassmen middle distance runners, as she took fourth place out of 66 competitors in the one mile with a career-best time of 5:00.48 in the event
  • Senior Adriana Forcucci showed very well in the 60m dash as she completed preliminaries with a time of 7.92 seconds before earning fourth place in the 60m finals as she posted 7.96 seconds in the finals
  • First-year Cassandra Sturdevant packed up well with Thorne and De Lucia in the 1000m as she placed 12th overall with a personal-best time of 3:00.86
  • Sophomore Nicole Szilagyi turned in an eighth place effort in the 60m hurdles as she posted a time of 9.44 seconds while junior Jillian Kilmer was 12th in the same event with a time of 9.54 seconds
  • Two-time NEC Rookie of the Week Kaylee Stenderowicz continues to impress in her rookie campaign as she placed seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 11.61m
  • Junior Kaylin Ciesluk posted a PR in the 800m as she clocked in at 2:22.95 to post the 26th-fastest time out of 69 runners in the event

The Pioneers will remain in-state for their next meet as SHU heads to the Giegengack Invitational hosted by Yale on Saturday, Feb. 15.
